A pet store and its grooming salon, on one point of sale

StillDeep Pet Store is a complete example business: a store register that sells fish, food and aquariums, and a grooming salon that runs its day from the agenda. Both registers share the same customers, pets and stock.

The business

StillDeep Pet Store is a fictional pet shop with a grooming salon in the back. The store sells about 640 items: freshwater and saltwater fish, invertebrates, plants, live animals in limited quantity, food in bags or in bulk, aquariums and accessories. Two groomers wash, cut and trim dogs and cats all week long.

The example runs on two Windows registers, each a small WPF application linked to the StillDeep libraries in process: no local web server, the receipt printer and the cash drawer driven directly.

The store register

Scan or tap: the same item adds up on its line, and 12* before the scan sells twelve. Fish and live animals are sold by the unit with their stock held for the cart; food in bulk is weighed, and a scale label is read to the cent.

Discounts on a line or on the whole cart, payment split in equal shares, quick cash amounts, receipt and drawer in the background: the cashier never waits.

A grooming week, filled

The grooming register opens on its agenda. Each appointment carries its customer, the pet being groomed and the groomer, placed on the groomer's own schedule: two appointments never overlap.

Tap a free slot of the day view to book: the first groomer available at that time is already chosen, and the customer is found by typing in the Customer field.

Grooming week: every day filled with dog and cat appointments, each with its customer, pet and groomer.

From the appointment to the payment

The day as a list: arrived, absent, canceled, or Check out in one tap. The grooming goes to the cart with the customer and the pet, a shampoo or a toy is added on the way, and the tip goes to the groomer of the shift.

The pet's file keeps its species, breed, age and history, from one visit to the next.

Selling when the network goes down

The registers keep selling from their local copy. When the server comes back, the sales waiting in the outbox are sent first, before anything else.

How it runs

One server in the back room

The store's server holds the database, the Admin and the Reports, on the local network. The Internet is only needed for card payments and updates.

Two registers on the counter

The store register and the grooming register sign in to the server, each with its own identity, and keep a local copy to sell offline.

The screens are yours

Each register is a small application of its own. Change its colors, its logo and its screens without touching the engine: taxes, stock and receipts stay right.

Free screen source code

The source code of both registers is free: copy it, rebrand it, fork it for your own store.

The whole register screens

Store and grooming screens, sales, customers, agenda, rentals and invoices: WPF code you can read, change and ship.

A skin contract

Colors, logo and font live in one skin file per theme. A fork can rebrand both registers without changing a single screen.

Ready for your coding agent

Every example comes with its AGENTS.md, and the stilldeep-pos-screen skill gives a coding agent the steps to adapt the screens to your business. Describe what you want; the agent edits the screens, the engine keeps the rules.

The developer guide shows the other way: your own screen, in your own language, over gRPC.

Questions about the pet store example

Do I need all four modules?

No. A store without a grooming salon needs Retail only; add Services for appointments, Rental for equipment and Loyalty cards for your regulars. Remove a module from your cart if you do not need it.

Can I run it on Linux or a Mac?

The store's server runs on Windows, Linux and macOS. These two register screens are WPF, so Windows only; a register in another stack speaks the same contract.

Is the pet store example free?

Yes. The screen source code is free. The modules are licensed per register; developers, schools and non-profits can apply to the free program.
